Add to myYahoo!Eliot Spitzer's second try at cable news success started unexpectedly on Friday with the debut of his new show "Viewpoint" on Current.
Just hours after Current announced that it had fired "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann, "Viewpoint," began in Olbermann's old slot. It was a sudden return to a hosting role for Spitzer, who had an unhappy and brief stint on CNN from late 2010 to the summer of 2011 as the host of "Parker Spitzer," later called "In the Arena." This time, he reemerged with not even a day's notice -- let alone any kind of promotional campaign or press tour to get the word out.
However, Spitzer has apparently had some time to prepare, as some reports suggested that he has been in talks with Current to replace Olbermann since November.
If his rather bumpy route to his new job was weighing on his mind, Spitzer didn't mention it as he opened the show. Working out of what appeared to be Olbermann's old studio, he said, "Welcome to Current's new 8 PM show, 'Viewpoint,' where every day we will drill down into the day's top stories in search of facts ... to inform our own opinions and hopefully those of our guests and you, our audience."
Spitzer's first story focused on the Trayvon Martin case.

Add to myYahoo! After 16 seasons of being on the air, ABC’s reality dating game show, “The Bachelor” has managed to fulfill a void for various eligible contestants. However to some fans disappointment, the show’s lack of diversity has raised a few questions as to why there has never been a non-white bachelor? Last year show creator, Mike Fleiss told Entertainment Weekly that he and his production team are always looking to cast for ethnic diversity, “it’s just that for whatever reason, they don’t come forward. I wish they would.”
Well look no further, Portland-based sportscaster Lamar Hurd is vying to become the show’s first African American hopeful. Initially the multifaceted commentator and entrepreneur was reluctant to apply for the show’s upcoming season, but thanks to his assistant, Tammy, Hurd has a different point of view.
“It all started when I was at Tammy’s house [my assistant], and we’re having a barbeque,” he explained in his YouTube audition clip. “She’s there with her sisters, her son, the whole family’s there. And I see some chuckling going on at the end of the table wondering what it is. I didn’t make too much of it cause they’re always cracking jokes. One of her sisters blurted out, ‘Tammy, you’ve been trying to get Lamar on the bachelor?’ So of course I looked down the table to try to see what’s really going on. And come to find out, she’s been trying to get me on.”
“When it first came up I shot the whole idea down. I said, ‘Tammy, first of all you have to look at it like this, they never had a black bachelor. Let’s say I wanted to go on there, and was willing to do it. They have not ever had a black bachelor.’ So that was the first thing.” In spite of the show’s history, Hurd has recently launched a campaign in hopes of landing him on season 17. If indeed the Oregon native is chosen to appear as the show’s leading man, he admitted that he would proudly accept the offer and hopefully find his love interest.
“It doesn’t matter what we’re doing, it’s who I’m doing it with. So if it’s someone that I’m in love with then we’re going to have a good time.”
Check out Lamar Hurd’s audition clip below.

Add to myYahoo! While there's no shame in securing tickets for a second screening of The Hunger Games this weekend, keep in mind there are some awesome new movies opening this week. Julia Roberts is playing the wonderfully wicked evil queen in Mirror Mirror, Liam Neeson, Sam Worthington, and Ralph Fiennes will bring gods and warriors back to the screen in Wrath of the Titans, and Seann William Scott is back (now with more Eugene Levy than ever!) as a bouncer-turned-hockey player in Goon. Peruse the pics and let us know which one you'll be catching this weekend!

Add to myYahoo!Actor and director Mark Ruffalo recently joined Stephen Colbert to discuss an issue that continues to divide many Americans.
Appearing on the "Colbert Report" this week, Ruffalo discussed what he sees as one of the biggest problems associated with fracking, mountaintop removal coal mining and the extraction of Canada's tar sands oil. "All of these things destroy water," Ruffalo argued.
As a resident of a region impacted by hydraulic fracturing for natural gas, Ruffalo said that he feels quite passionately about water protection.
At first excited about the prospect of cheap and independent energy, Ruffalo said he changed his mind about fracking after visting Dimock, Pennsylvania. He told Colbert, "I saw what it does to families. These people can't drink the water that's coming out of their tap. Here in America."
Earlier in the interview, Ruffalo stressed the potential of renewable energy sources like "wind, water and solar." Citing the prevalence of solar energy in Germany, Ruffalo remarked "America's being left behind. We're being left behind all over the world."
In the interview, Ruffalo misspoke in stating that 30 percent of Germany's electricity is generated from solar power -- the figure is actually three percent. Although he was mistaken, he later apologized on Twitter:
Ruffalo may have been quite serious about fracking, but Colbert's distinct interview style was not lost on him. During the interview, Ruffalo admitted he couldn't disagree when Colbert joked, "We burn things better than anybody's ever burned things. America was built on burning things."
Ruffalo's organization, Water Defense, recently launched an anti-fracking campaign called "Natural Gas Exxposed." The campaign asks its supporters to "join [them] in rejecting this dangerous bridge to nowhere and working to build a renewable energy economy."
In the past, Ruffalo has also lent his support to other environmental causes. In November, Ruffalo spoke to HuffPost while attending a Keystone XL protest outside of the White House.
