Ken Levine's Blog

Ken Levine reached a milestone this week. A well-deserved one: his is a great blog.

He raises a good point. It's almost impossible to know how many people are visiting a blog. Some stats are available, yes, but there are ways of reading without actually visiting the page and - at the present time - there's no way to guage stats on those readers.

Readers as a rule (and I'm very much included in this) don't bother to post comments or respond very much.

So blogging/podcasting is a bit like peforming in a theatre during a blackout. You know there are people out there, but how many...?

That's anyone's guess.

Why use the ShamWow when we have paper towels

Filed under: Video, Commercials, Web, Reality-Free

I know, I know, two commercial-inspired posts in one day, but this one's pretty funny. It's a parody of the ShamWow ad. It shows us all of the things that paper towels can do, regardless of what Vince tries to tell us in those commercials. Personally, I think he should drive home the "paper towels are better" point more.

Prince will probably never be a guest on
Letterman's show

Filed under: Late Night, Celebrities, Talk Show, Reality-Free

Tonight Show
I would have posted this earlier today, but I couldn't read Prince's handwriting on the big sheet of paper he gave to Jay Leno last night. I thought it was just a goodbye wish, but now I see from TMZ that it was actually a dig at David Letterman.

It says "Jay is the best. Even Paul Shaffer knows it." Billy Crystal looks amused.

Jeff Zucker talks about NBC, web content, and why
Seinfeld wouldn't survive today

Filed under: Industry, Programming, Video, Reality-Free

When I first saw this I thought to myself, Jeff, a show like Seinfeld actually would survive if you stuck with it and didn't cancel it, just like NBC did back then. You don't have to cancel shows even today just because they don't get great ratings after two episodes.

This is a clip of NBC boss Jeff Zucker being interviewed at the All Things D conference. He talks about Hulu, iTunes, NBC's woes, and how the industry has changed over the years. (This is highlights from the interview - full report here.)

BTWF roles: Owen and Luke Wilson in Bottle Rocket

Before we got to know The Wilson Brothers in The Royal Tennenbaums, they worked together in the 15 minute short Bottle Rocket. While the 22 year Luke Wilson looks the same as he did in 1994, the 25 year old Owen looks so different with the crew cut. I am glad Owen let his hair [...]
