Hell's Kitchen star Gordon Ramsay had work done on his face--at the suggestion of American Idol judge Simon Cowell. "My mother said they were smile lines. I could deal with that at 21, but not at 42. Simon Cowell suggested that now I'm a success in America, I should do something, so I had a filler put under the deep crevices. It hurt," he told Radio Times. Sky News has before and after photos.... keep reading »

Add to myYahoo! It wouldn't be Halloween without tons of people dressed up like their favorite pop culture icons; in the past few years I've seen countess Amy Winehouses, Sarah Palins, and Madonnas. The ideas lose a lot of their originality when they're all over the place, and I'm sure there will plenty of costume repeats this weekend.
Right off the bat I'm expecting to see more than one Kate Gosselin and Lady Gaga, not to mention Michael Jacksons of all ages. What about you - what's your prediction for the most overdone Halloween costume of 2009? Oh, and if you need a last-minute idea yourself, check out my suggestions for a movie-inspired costume.

Add to myYahoo!I am so escited! (not a typo, by the way--I'm so high on the excito-meter that I've moved from the "x" to the "s"). My mom called me last night to let me know that she had snagged me a treasure. A Turner mirrored flamingo print! This is a classic piece of mid-century modern kitsch. It should go great in my TV room along with my wall 'o' paint-by-numbers. When it comes to decorating, I am all about class and elegance. So if you, like me, define "class" as exotic birds painted on a mirror, you will understand why I am giddy with anticipation.
In other news, I ordered the first season of Popular on DVD. I just couldn't get Mary Cherry off my mind. I got the set super-cheap from Goodwill Books Online. It turns out Popular-Season 1 DVDs are really quite expensive. I *heart* Goodwill Industries. I was able to get a new, in the package set for under $20 which included postage. They arrived last night, but I won't get to watch them for awhile. Tonight is Game 1 of the World Series. I need my annual Derek Jeter fix. With apologies to my dear friend Denise, Go Yankees!
Game 1 means that Ghost Hunters will have to wait until tomorrow. Ghost hunting plumbers are usually delayed only as long as it takes to fast forward through the commercials; putting them off to another night is rare, indeed. Here's the question I always find myself noodling while I watch Ghost Hunters: Do you think this show would work if the ghost hunters weren't plumbers by day? I don't think it would. I'm not sure I'd watch a show about ghost hunting actuaries or ghost hunting pharmaceutical salesmen. What good luck for Grant and Jason that they happened to be plumbers and not algebra teachers. And how fascinating that paranormal-intrigued cable subscribers relate to plumbers over other professions.
Also being rescheduled to another night are King of the Crown and Toddlers & Tiaras. To answer the question I'm sure you want to ask, yes, I am ashamed that I watch Toddlers & Tiaras. I can't help it. There is something fascinating about watching extremely bitchy mothers who secretly loathe their daughters in the process of destroying their innocent lives. It's carwreck-TV and I, for one, cannot take my eyes off it.
There is a new addition to the DVR this week: Cake Boss. Buddy owns Carlo's Bakery in New Jersey which he runs with his large "famiglia." They make cakes and yell at each other. It's Ace of Cakes with Italian stereotypes. I have to say, Buddy is significantly less annoying than Duff, his Ace of Cakes counterpart. I want to smack that Duff. Cake Boss is nothing earth-shattering, but it's good background when knitting or sewing. . . or whacking people.
I wanted to insert a clip of Derek Jeter here, but I couldn't find it online anywhere. Isn't it amazing when you can't find something online? So I'll just tell you about it. It was an SNL skit with Derek Jeter showing up to a party with his new Toni home perm. For reasons I've never been able to explain, I think it's the funniest skit SNL ever did. So, because I can't find it, here instead is the Jon Hamm's John Ham skit, which is almost as funny.
