susan_lucci_daytime_emmys_getty_imagesIn advance of the official Daytime Emmy, the pre-nominations list has come out. The pre-noms are a way for the Emmys to narrow down the selections in the acting categories to the performers who will be on the ballot for the official nominations. This preliminary step covers six acting categories.

Here are the actors, show by show -- including 'As the World Turns' for the last time -- who will be competing to make it on the final ballot in the four main acting categories:

'All My Children'

Outstanding Lead Actress: Rebecca Budig as Greenlee Hayward; Alicia Minshew as Kendall Slater; Debbi Morgan as Angie Hubbard

Outstand Lead Actor: Ricky Paull Goldin as Jake Martin; Michael E. Knight as Tad Martin

Oscar Ratings Down, But Still Respectable

Anne Hathaway, James Franco, OscarsDespite lukewarm reviews, the 2011 Oscars telecast managed to bring in around million viewers last night.

The 83rd Academy Awards was down 7 percent from last year's broadcast, according to Deadline Hollywood. The three-hour show, hosted by youngins Anne Hathaway and James Franco, earned a 24.6 household rating/37 share on Sunday night, down from last year's 26.5 rating but still beating both the 2008 and 2009 telecasts.

Still, it seems the Academy's "younger hosts = younger viewers" theory paid off -- according to Variety, the show was down just 2 percent in the 18-49 demographic.

Michelle Williams Takes On the Wild West in the
Meek's Cutoff Trailer

I have a little bit of Western fever after True Grit, so I may be more excited than usual for the Meek's Cutoff trailer, starring Michelle Williams. She plays Emily Tetherow, a woman whose wagon train gets lost as they attempt to take a shortcut over the Cascade Mountains in the 1840s. Conditions become harsher and more hostile, forcing the group to decide whether to trust the natives for help. There's a very threatening and somber tone to the trailer, and the film itself, I'd presume; you know that not everyone is going to survive this trip.

The film, which premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival, reunites Williams with her Wendy and Lucy director, Kelly Reichardt, and also costars indie darlings (and future onscreen couple) Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan. As for Williams, it looks like the recent Oscar nominee is turning in another superb performance from under her travel bonnet. The movie comes out April 8, so take a look at the preview when you read more.

CNBC's John Harwood on Obama's second act and
journalism's inherent bias (Video Interview)

Journalist John Harwood, Kenyon College Parent...John Harwood, image by Larry Miller via FlickrBy BOB ANDELMAN (email)
Mr. MediaŽ Radio Network

Here?s a job for you: No matter what your title is, you?re going to be called upon from one day to the next to express opinions on important, global topics about which you may start the day not always knowing a lot. But by day?s end, you damn well better be an expert, or there will be hell to pay in the morning.

Welcome to breaking news, son.

John Harwood, chief Washington correspondent for CNBC and a political writer for the New York Times, has a high level of expertise on all sorts of major and minor political matters. But I think the real reason he is in demand is that he is cool and measured under pressure and doesn?t talk out of his ass.

Pardon my French.

--------------Listen to my JOHN HARWOOD interview!--------------
Harwood is the kind of guy you want to turn to in a developing crisis, whether you?re an assigning media editor or a viewer/reader. He gives you straight talk and can do so on whatever subject is put in front of him.

I knew John mostly in passing ? you know, I?d walk by his desk and say, ?Hi, John? and he?d say, ?I?m sorry, who are you?? ? back when he was a highly respected reporter at the St. Petersburg Times and I was the kid they?d call to fill in when the grizzled veteran covering Indian Shores was hospitalized for terminal boredom. Harwood was one of an army of guys and gals from that era who now populate the highest levels of American journalism. (I?m looking at you, Dana Priest, Tom French, Sheryl James, Jacob Schlesinger, Anne Hull, Doron Levin, David Finkel, Karl Vick, Milo Geyelin?)

John is coming back to the new new media capitol of the world on Wednesday, March 2, to give a speech at Hyatt Regency Sarasota,. His topic: ?Obama?s Second Act: What Comes Next?? The event is open to the public and you can buy tickets at ForumTruth.org.

Hear it now!JOHN HARWOOD audio excerpt: "(Cable news channels) want people to fight, whatever is happening. They're looking for the most intense arguments you can have."
