What Bob is thankful for

TV dinnerIt's Thanksgiving time again, and while I am obviously thankful for my family and my friends and finding out that the nasty rash I had was nothing to be concerned about, it's a time for nods to TV-related things that I'm thankful for.

1. Mad Men. I hate to be boring by picking the same thing as I did last year as my number one thing I'm thankful for, but did you see that season finale? Holy crap. It was the capper to a fantastic season. This is the best show on television (and a thanks-within-a-thanks for this being on AMC and not some other network).

Dancing with the Stars generates more complaints
than Adam Lambert did

ABC received more than 1,500 complaints about Adam Lambert's AMA performance, but it turns out that's not really a big deal after all, because Dancing with the Stars is even more controversial, and we all know how crazy risque that show is. Advertising Age reports that "ABC gets more complaints from viewers over broadcasts of 'Dancing with the Stars,'" according to "One person familiar with the situation." I'd say that I'd love to see those... keep reading »

Review: Lie to Me - Secret Santa

During the holiday season, Lightman (Tim Roth, L) travels to Afghanistan to help rescue two captured Marines in the LIE TO ME episode 'Secret Santa.'
(S02E08) "You believe in Santa Claus?" - Lightman

Ho Ho Ho... you're going to Afghanistan. Not exactly a Christmas present to be happy about. Having said that, Cal must surely be happy about what he accomplished in last night's episode of Lie to Me.

Sent to a US Marines outpost in the middle of the desert near Kabul, Cal was tasked with uncovering the truth about a deep-cover US operative who got left for dead and had to join to Taliban to survive. Cal was able to get plenty of info from his subject about two missing Marines but we ended up learning far more about Dr. Lightman as a result of his methods.

Movie Preview: Ben Stiller Plays It Straight in
Greenberg

I have a love/hate relationship with Ben Stiller movies. Over the years, I've grown tired of seeing him in the same everyman role again and again (with a few exceptions, like There's Something About Mary), but every now and then he throws a curve ball that pulls me back in. Greenberg already looks like one of the latter films.

The upcoming indie movie from The Squid and the Whale director Noah Baumbach follows Roger Greenberg, a middle-aged New Yorker who heads to LA and decides to "do nothing" in an attempt to figure out his life. The movie looks like it could be a tearjerker, but maybe that's just because LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" is playing in the background. (The band's James Murphy lends a few new songs to the movie). Rhys Ifans is Roger's best friend while Greta Gerwig is the woman he befriends and beds. If you're ready to see Stiller take a break from slapstick, check out the trailer when you read more.
