Peek at the Christmas Special (VIDEO)

Filed under: Reality-Free, TV News, Holiday TV

'Doctor Who' Christmas special'Doctor Who' star Matt Smith performed a striptease on TV Friday night, but it was all for a good cause. As part of the BBC's annual 'Children in Need' telethon Smith stripped off a signature 'Doctor Who' outfit before putting it up for auction together with a signed script.

Talking on this morning's 'BBC Breakfast' Smith said he hopes the items will fetch as much as possible, and he reiterated his belief that "bow ties are cool." He also talked about the "massive challenge" of taking on a role that's been part of the British cultural landscape for 50 years. Smith joked that at a recent party he was starstruck to meet two of his predecessors in the role, David Tennant and his father-in-law Peter Davison, thinking "Wow, it's Doctor Who!" before realizing "I'm Doctor Who!"

'Children in Need' also showcased a sneak peek at that staple of the festive season, the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special. Catch it after the jump.

TV Shows We're Most Thankful For

HomelandWe're thankful for a lot of things, but we're all about TV around here, and so is this list. Yes, it's time once again for the annual staff picks for TV Shows We're Most Thankful For.

There's plenty to choose from -- and obviously we had to narrow it down quite a bit -- but each of us has decided on one show that makes weekly viewing and analysis fun and worthwhile, for whatever reason.

Some of us appreciate a good laugh above all, some put dramas on a pedestal, and others are into vampire dramas with a hint of Somerhalder. You get the idea.

Take a peek at our quick list, then please share your own show that makes you thankful in the comments. Gobble gobble!

Colin Firth Wants to Host 'SNL' Again

People forget this, but seven years before Colin Firth became an Oscar winner for playing the King of England, and before Firth became the no-doubt-about-it household name that he is today, he hosted 'SNL,' back in March of 2004. Firth is currently promoting his new spy thriller, 'Tinker Tailor Solider Spy,' but took some time to reminisce about his hosting duties and made it clear that, yes, he wants to host 'SNL' again. The ball is in your court, 'SNL.' (And, yes, 'SNL,' you should totally let Colin Firth host again.)

W.E. Trailer: Madonna Takes On Historical Romance

If you saw The King's Speech last year and were intrigued by the storyline between the king's brother King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, then you'll probably be interested in the trailer for W.E. Madonna directed and cowrote the film, which depicts the relationship between the former king who abdicated the throne to be with the woman he loved, American socialite Simpson. It's told in flashback through a modern-day woman in New York, Wallie Winthrop (Abbie Cornish), who is reading the letters of the old lovers. Wallie experiences a parallel to their torrid affair when she embarks on her own with a Russian security guard (Oscar Isaac).

The trailer makes the King Edward and Wallis Simpson story look heartbreakingly romantic, though I found myself less interested in Wallie's romance happening in the present day. I'm also curious to see how Madonna has handled the film, and though we have to wait until February 2012 to see it, you can watch the trailer when you keep reading.
