Lea Michele reflects on singing Streisand

lea_michele_gleeI have to admit that from the first time I saw Glee, I loved Lea Michele. The character of Rachel Berry, that "determined to be a star and I don't care who knows it" attitude appealed to me. I recognized that feeling, too, because I remember watching Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl in the movies and having the same feeling of identification. When Streisand finished singing "I'm the Greatest Star" as Fanny Brice, I was convinced. Well, Lea feels it, too. She's a major Streisand fan and she loved singing a Barbra song on Glee.

Every time Lea Michele has had a chance to go diva -- like "Maybe This Time" and "Defying Gravity" -- she's displayed that Streisandesque musical power.

So when the winter finale had the New Directions show choir at sectionals and Rachel stepped up to sing "Don't Rain on My Parade," I was on the edge of my seat. I wondered if Lea would pull it off. I say that because it's a very hard song to do, everything is on the offbeat and it's a driving melody that requires a big voice and a lot of stamina.

Buzz-Worthy Video: Mark Wahlberg Talks to
Christmas Animals

Over the weekend, James Franco took the SNL stage hoping to create the "best Christmas show of all time." Well, I wouldn't say he succeeded, but we did get one funny holiday skit out of it (along with Bobby Moynihan hilariously dressed as Jersey Shore's Snookie). Andy Samberg revived his "Mark Wahlberg Talks to Animals," this time talking to Christmas animals (and a snowman).

It's no "Schweddy Balls," but it was definitely a fun pick-me-up to a lackluster episode, so check it out as the holiday season rages on. Also be sure to check out my holiday movie faceoff giveaway and wish your mother a Merry Christmas for me.

To see the video, just read more.

Movie Preview: Jennifer Lopez in The Back-Up Plan

Jennifer Lopez tried to get back into serious mode with recent movies like Bordertown and El Cantante, but after taking some time off for motherhood, she's returned to her tried and true romantic comedies. Here's your first look at The Back-Up Plan, where Lopez stars as Zoe, a 30-something woman who turns to artificial insemination when she can't find "the one" but also refuses to ignore her biological clock any longer. Of course, right after she makes the decision, her Prince Charming shows up in the form of scruffy-dreamy Alex O'Loughlin.

Sound familiar? Maybe it's because The Back-Up Plan looks an awful lot like Baby Mama and will undoubtedly be confused with Jennifer Aniston's upcoming comedy The Baster (yes, that kind of baster). Still, it doesn't look terrible as far as romantic comedies are concerned, and it should be enough to satisfy fans of The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. Plus, as much as I love Patrick Dempsey and Bradley Cooper, it's always nice to get a hot new guy in the mix.

The film hits theaters in April 2010, and to see the trailer just read more.
