What are the top moments in TV history

Filed under: Programming, Awards, Emmys, Reality-Free

EmmyWe're used to reading all of the lists that rank the best and worst TV shows of all-time, now ABC is getting even more specific than that. What are the top moments in television history?

You can vote for them at the ABC site and your answers will be revealed on the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be broadcast on Sunday, September 21. There are two categories, comedy and drama (sorry fans of game shows and reality shows). No, you can't write in your own vote, you have to pick from the finalists that they've already chosen for you, so right off the bat you know there's going to be a lot of "but what about..." and "why did they include..." talk.

Valerie Bertinelli Is Coming Back To Sitcom

Valerie TBS

Valerie Bertinelli is coming back to the world of sitcoms. She just signed on to to star in a new comedy pilot for TBS (via Sony Pictures Television) from writer/executive producer Dave Caplan (The Bill Envall Show, George Lopez, etc). MIchael Wright, the SVP of the Content Creation Group for TBS, TNT and Turner said, "Valerie Bertinelli became a popular fixture on television playing one of two children being raised by a single working mother...Now she's exploring that world from the opposite angle, playing a single working mother raising two children. Between Valerie's comic skills and Dave Caplan's highly relatable humor, we're very excited to watch this pilot take shape."

Looks like Jenny Craig put her back on the map! I wonder if the pilot will have their own "Schneider" on it?

McAvoy and Blunt Join Elton John for Gnomeo and
Juliet

"Gnomeo!" It makes me giggle.

The big news in the animation world today has to do with Shakespeare, Elton John and a star-crossed garden gnome couple voiced by James McAvoy and Emily Blunt. It sounds so cute my teeth are starting to ache.

Apparently Gnomeo and Juliet has been in the works for several years, with various other talent involved (Kate Winslet, Tim Rice). Now, the CGI-animated movie will blend Elton John's well-known songs (and some new ones) with a story based on one of Shakespeare's most well-known works. The Hollywood Reporter has more details:

In the loose and edgy adaptation of Shakespeare's play, McAvoy (Atonement) and Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) would play lovers from rival gardens. John, who is producing alongside his offscreen partner David Furnish, Baker Bloodworth and Steve Hamilton Shaw, is said to be pursuing big-name talent to voice supporting roles.

I'm not the biggest fan of Elton John, but this sounds like it could be just so adorable. I mean, the Romeo and Juliet story's been played. . .but not by garden gnomes!

Rescue Me, minisode 9: Sweat
(M9) "It's just the same as drinking water... right?" - Mike

All these guys do is eat, sleep, drink, and get laid. Occasionally, they fight fires. Seeing as how they do it so infrequently, I can't say that I'm surprised that Mike (still the Probie in this episode) forgot to fill the cooler with drinking water before going out on a call. All Mike does is eat, sleep, drink, get laid, and forget stuff.
