Following a 17-month hiatus, “Mad Men” returned to airwaves last month for their fifth season. In addition to AMC's award-winning series being welcomed to great fan fare, the popular show also introduced their first African-American character and Don Draper’s new secretary, Dawn Chambers, played by Teyonnah Parris.
According to Parris, she landed the role following an audition with show creator Matt Weiner and star Jon Hamm. “I auditioned like everybody else,” she said in a interview with The Los Angeles Times. “My first audition was with the casting directors and then after that, I got a call back and in that call back, Jon Hamm, who was directing that episode, and Matt Weiner were there. I was not expecting to walk into that.”
“But as far as knowing what the character would be, the breakdown said: ‘co-star, African-American.’ They don't let on to anything. I had no clue. I also didn't audition with the material we see in the episodes. They made up a completely different scene for the character.”
Aside from catching up on previous episodes of the series, Parris also revealed that she did most of her research on music from the 1960s. “I actually have been wanting to do something in this time period for a long time because it was such an important time. A lot of my research was more on catching up with the series. I had watched a few episodes here and there but I hadn't seen all four seasons.”
“Mad Men” airs at 10pm et/pt on AMC.

Add to myYahoo! On "American Pickers," (Mondays, 9 p.m. ET on History) Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz came across a rare, valuable practice sculpture used by Jose de Creeft, the artist best known for the famous Alice in Wonderland statue in New York's Central Park.
When they took the sinister-looking model cat to get appraised, the expert was impressed. "Nobody else has uncovered one of these," he said. "You guys have uncovered a real historical piece. You'd probably get in the $6,000 range for it right now ... It's not just an ugly cat."
"Man, it's so ugly it's beautiful," Wolfe quipped.

Add to myYahoo! It's quarter-finals time, y'all! For those who haven't heard, this week's episode of The Voice had a pretty crazy twist. But we've got some ground to cover before we get to that. The judges performed with their teams, which means we got treated to a choir-backed rendition of Christina Aguilera's "Stronger" and a pretty blatant commercial for Starbucks. Blake's team tackled "Heartache Tonight," and though he was up there with them, I'm not completely convinced he was singing. Adam got some stage time too when he sang his new single, "Payphone," featuring Wiz Khalifa. It's no "Moves Like Jagger," but it was alright. Finally, two finalists were instantly dropped from the competition. Starting with the cut contestants, let's go through the performances and then you tell me, who's in danger of being cut tomorrow night?

Add to myYahoo! The Inbetweeners writer Iain Morris has poured scorn on reports that his television creation is set for a fourth series.
Writing on Twitter today, he was succinct in his response to rumours that the hapless quartet are to be filmed going off to college and starting their working lives, but with their numbers depleted by one:
Various media outlets had reported James Buckley, who plays self-professed lady-lover Jay, as saying there would be a fourth, but with one of the characters killed off.
To which Morris had this to say:
So that's that, then. No more punched fish. Or fashion shows gone horribly awry. Or trips to Thorpe Park. So we'll have to contend ourselves (FOR NOW!) with more replays of the bunch of four clunge-keteers.
In the meantime, have your say in our quick poll below...
