Review: The Prisoner - Part Two: Harmony

The Prisoner: Harmony
(E02) The whole strategy behind the Village has been turned on its head and it's certainly interesting to watch. Two is bound and determined to have everyone who lives there believe that the Village is all there is, there is no world outside of the Village and the Village is all they've ever known. He's even got tangible proof to back that up.

It's an interesting change from the original, and again makes you wonder just who would be willing to invest this kind of money into a bizarre prison like this. Is the citizenry drugged, or just brainwashed? Why is Six so adamant that he is not a number, he is a free man, if no one else in the village is so sure? Or are they just being more quiet about it?

We've even reached the point in the series where as a viewer I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is real, much less what Six is seeing and experiencing. But it was nice to meet his brother and see that he has a family in the Village. "Uncle Six" indeed.

SNL blame game: were the writers or January Jones
at fault

On the one hand, you have to feel bad for January Jones. She’s a stunningly beautiful actress and impressive as repressed ’60s housewife Betty Draper on “Mad Men,” both of which are enough to earn her plenty of attention in[...]

Review: The Prisoner - Part One: Arrival

The Prisoner
(E01) I can't help but feel tempted to compare this to the Patrick McGoohan classic from the '60s, but that wouldn't be fair. Attitudes, technologies and even our expectations of TV programming have changed so much in the intervening time. And yet, as an homage to the original, there are many elements to this new AMC mini-series that nod back to the classic paranoia suspense saga.

While The Village has been updated to be a much larger and more vibrant desert oasis (think kitschy Las Vegas) than the original's sleepy seaside villas, it's still as much an enigma, even in this first hour. And while Jim Caviezel doesn't command the role of Number 6 as powerfully as McGoohan, really who could? So I give him a pass, and enjoy him for what he brings, and try not to hear McGoohan's booming defiance when Caviezel shouts: "I am not a number! I am a free man!"

Judy Tenuta, BUY THIS AGAIN, PIGS! comedian: Mr.
Media Radio Interview

BY BOB ANDELMAN

The really funny thing about Judy Tenuta?

Pretty much everything. And she?s actually quite a lovely woman, as you can see from the photos on her website?JudyTenuta.com. I wanted to get that out of the way now, before she reminds me of what a pig I and all the rest of you men are.

AUDIO EXCERPT: "Here's a letter: 'Dear Goddess, I have a super-cute boyfriend who only likes to decorate and lip sync to Yentl. Could he be gay? Love, Oprah.' What is going on with her?"
Now back to our scheduled bout of wits with the Love Goddess, the persona that comedian Judy Tenuta has been bringing to stage and screen for years. The Love Goddess is loud, she?s proud and, of course, she?s plays a wicked accordian.

And, of course, her latest comedy CD is called Buy This Again, Pigs! The Best of Judy Tenuta.

VARIATIONS ON A THEME

A couple of months ago, 'Psych' was playing around with their theme song - for example, because of a storyline in which Gus re-teamed with his old singing group, Boys 2 Men delivered the song in their own style for that episode.

There was also another episode called "Bollywood Homicide" which had the theme rendered in Hindi, including the titles. It was actually pretty catchy, but it also reminded me of another theme song.....

AS SEEN ON TV: WILLIE ESTERHUYSE

WILLIE ESTERHUYSE
AS SEEN IN:
"Endgame"

AS PLAYED BY:
William Hurt

Willem Petrus "Willie" Esterhuyse was a university professor active in enlisting other Afrikaners to the anti-apartheid cause when he assumed a role in opening the dialogue between the exiled African National Congress (ANC) and South Africa's apartheid government in the late 1980s.

Esterhuyse detested what he deemed the terrorist actions of the ANC that put civilians in danger as much as he knew that South Africa's government could not continue on its current course. Author of the 1981 book, "Apartheid Must Die", the cool-headed professor was involved not only in the initial talks, but in convincing parties to come back to the table when negotiations had stalled.

Esterhuyse subsequently became an advisor to Thabo Mbeki, ANC president Oliver Tambo's representative at the talks who went on to be president of South Africa. Esterhuyse retired from Stellenbosch University in 2006. He continues to speak about the challenges facing present day South Africa and is writing a book about trust and confidence-building in bridging the racial divide.
