Review: XtremeHD 4 to 1 HDMI Switcher

When it comes to HDMI, most TVs only come with one connector which makes it a pain to hook up multiple devices to your TV. What you need is a reliable device like the XtremeHD 4 to 1 HDMI Switcher. DigitalHome has a review of the XtremeHD that starts out:

If you’re like many Digital Home owners who are always adding new digital toys, you're probably finding that you have more HDMI output devices than your current HDTV television can handle.

The answer to this dilemma is an HDMI switch which allows you to accept HDMI signals from multiple devices and then switch between which input you'd like to display on screen.

The review describes the device:

The XtremeHD from XtremeMac http://www.xtrememac.com is a four port HDMI switcher which provides expansion capability to home entertainment systems with limited HDMI inputs. Up to four HDMI sources, such as DVD players, satellite systems, digital video recorders, PS3's, XBOX 360 Elite and Apple TV can be connected to the HDMI switcher.

Overall the review is positive:

The XtremeHD HDMI switcher is an attractive reasonably priced and solidly built 4to1 HDMI switcher that Digital Home would recommend for any household that has more HDMI output devices than their current HDTV can accommodate.

For under $99, this is one device HDMI users really need to look at.

Music Video: Feist Performing "I Feel It All" on
The DL

Ok, I already declared Feist's "I Feel It All" my official anthem of Summer, but now Ms. Leslie has made me like the song even more. You'll see what I mean if you watch this video of Feist and her band of indie boys performing "I Feel It All" on The DL show on Spinner.com.

Feist looks adorable in her breezy dress, surrounded by an orchestra of toy musical instruments. And remarkably, her pipes sound even more amazing here than on the record. To watch the video,

Are you envious of Big Love's wives

Big Love Ever watch HBO's Big Love and feel a tad bit envious of the wives? Ever find yourself wishing there was another wife kicking around the house with whom you could talk, whose refrigerator you could raid and with whom you could watch repeats of the Sopranos and curse the series' ending?

Well, a Michigan woman does. In fact, Michele Gazzolo said in a Chicago Tribune essay that she covets the fictional Big Love wives' coziness and says she and her neighbors refer to one another as "sister wives," even though they don't share a hubby. "We found ourselves confessing that plural marriage didn't look so terrible, even in a drama filled with suffering and intrigue," Gazzolo wrote.

Even Christopher Hitchens is writing about Paris
Hilton

Filed under: Other Reality Shows, Web, Celebrities

Paris HiltonI always look forward to what Christopher Hitchens has to say. I don't always agree with him (for example, his Vanity Fair piece saying that female comedians aren't funny was just stooopid), but he's an intelligent guy and always has a unique take on politics, history, and culture. And now he has written an article for Slate on the Paris Hilton case.

Should he even be writing about someone like the Simple Life star, when he himself admits that the case has been covered way too much? He confronts this paradox, but I still wonder if he succeeds in defending his choice to write about her (though I don't really think he needs to defend it).

But the piece is interesting. Hitchens admits he has seen the Hilton sex video, says he doesn't like Sarah Silverman (big shock), and thinks that the treatment Hilton is getting "stinks" and that she should be left to live the life she has been given.

What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday

All of the new DVD releases hit stores (and Netflix) on Tuesdays. So each week in What to Netflix: New DVD Tuesday, I sort through the best of the batch and tell you what to add to your queue. Also releasing this week is Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider, which inexplicably took the No. 1 spot at the box office when it first came out.

Breach
There are more interesting and complex CIA thrillers than this one, but for what it is, Breach is perfectly adequate. Eric O'Neill (Ryan Philippe) is the new, young FBI agent hopeful assigned to the case of veteran operative and alleged mole Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper). Hanssen is suspected of providing information to the Soviets, costing the government financial drain and leading to the deaths of at least a few American agents, yet the FBI has never been able to gain enough evidence to take him down. As Eric gets closer to exposing Hanssen for what he is, he simultaneously puts his wife ? and his own sanity ? in danger. For more details, check out my review.

Sopranos finale: No apologies or explanations

davidchase.jpg

David Chase, creator of The Sopranos and the writer-director of the series finale, has no apologies or explanations about its controversial, vexing final scene. Though he is hiding out in France.Chase speaks to Alan Sepinwall, longtime Tabloid Baby link and the pre-eminent Sopranos TV critic, from the Newark-Star-Ledger-- the guy we sent you to check in with Sunday night:"I have no interest in explaining, defending, reinterpreting, or adding to what is there," he says of the final scene."No one was trying to be audacious, honest to God. We did what we thought we had to do. No one was trying to blow people's minds, or thinking, 'Wow, this'll piss them off.' People get the impression that you're trying to f--- with them and it's not true. You're trying to entertain them.""Anybody who wants to watch it, it's all there." But what about reports the ending was left ambiguous in anticipation of a Sopranos movie?Find out.. and read the entire interview... after the jump... "I don't think about (a movie) much," Chase claims. "I never say never. An idea could pop into my head where I would go, 'Wow, that would make a great movie,' but I doubt it."I'm not being coy. If something appeared that really made a good 'Sopranos' movie and you could invest in it and everybody else wanted to do it, I would do it. But I think we've kind of said it and done it."He said a movie poses problems since he killed off so many major characters last season. He says he's toyed with the idea of "going back to a day in 2006 that you didn't see, but then (Tony's children) would be older than they were then and you would know that Tony doesn't get killed. It's got problems."Chase does defend one aspect of the final scene: the selection of Journey's maligned but classic "Don't Stop Believin'" as its soundtrack:"It didn't take much time at all to pick it, but there was a lot of conversation after the fact. I did something I'd never done before: in the location van, with the crew, I was saying, 'What do you think?' When I said, 'Don't Stop Believin',' people went, 'What? Oh my god!' I said, 'I know, I know, just give a listen,' and little by little, people started coming around."Read the entire interview here.--Tabloid Baby

David Chase talks about The Sopranos finale

David ChaseGive David Chase some credit. He promised Alan Sepinwall of the Newark Star-Ledger an interview right after the finale of The Sopranos aired. Sure enough, even though he's on a sabbatical in France and is denying all interview requests, he kept his promise and spoke to Sepinwall yesterday, despite the controversy surrounding how his series closed out its run.

Did he reveal what happened in final scene, where Tony Soprano eyes some shady figures while waiting for his family to arrive for dinner, after it cut to black? Of course not. But he did try to allay fan's assertions that he pulled the rug out from under them.

Will Rainn Wilson get his own spin-off

Rainn WilsonDon't do it Rainn.

Fox News' Roger Friedman reports that NBC is actually thinking about giving the Dwight Schrute character his own spin-off show. Friedman is often wrong but this time it was confirmed (sorta) by Wilson himself. Friedman met Wilson at a party after the Tony Awards the other night and Wilson is the one who brought it up.
