Coming soon... The City, MTV One

These two series show people with more money than sense, poring over what designer dress they should wear on any given evening and which 'hot guy' they should date today. It's odious, nauseating television, featuring odious, nauseating people with wafer-thin personalities. But, and it's a big but, people love it. There's something appealing and highly addictive about watching how the other half live, and The Hills et al has these qualities in spades. Now there's a follow up coming our way...

Hollyoaks: A three-way tie

nancy-hollyoaks.jpg
Hollyoaks, like no other show on TV, brings out the snob in people. When I mention to people that I watch the show with an alarming regularity, they spit..

Kardashians don't have any plans to stop being
reality whores

I'm in Los Angeles at the TV critics winter press tour, when networks hold large press conferences or panels so TV critics can ask questions, which a few pathetic journalists then pretend was a private or otherwise exclusive conversation. (Real critics and reporters get actually exclusive information from one-on-one conversations...

Jeff Stelling makes his Countdown debut... today!

New-Countdown-hosts-Rache-001.jpg
Presenting Countdown has, quite unbelievably, become one of the most sought after jobs on television. Not bad for a simple, mid-afternoon quiz show hidden among the backwaters of Channel 4. But such was the on-off-on-off nature of Jeff Stelling's appointment, the pressure is now on the Sky Sports presenter to deliver where the two Desses (messrs Lynam and O'Connor) perhaps didn't. It's always difficult when a show with two, long-standing presenters make way for new ones, so all eyes will be on Stelling and his new co-presenter, Rachel Riley. Will they be up to the task?

Of course there's always British interest in things like this (Ricky Gervais has been very successful in recent years), and it was Dame Judi Dench (for Cranford) and Tom Wilkinson flying the flag for Britain last night. Did they win? You can find out after the jump, but the big winner was 30 Rock.
