Add to myYahoo!NBC had good news all around today - after renewing Parenthood and 30 Rock, they also had good news for Community, giving the comedy an additional season. It'll be a shortened season of 13 episodes (which is also what 30 Rock is getting when it returns), but as a fan of the show, I'll take what I can get, and I'm guessing you will too.

Add to myYahoo!"The Office" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on NBC) finale seemed determine to right the ship a bit. Some viewers feel the show got a little off track this season, in large part due to the over-the-top and unpredictable antics of new Sabre CEO Robert California (James Spader).
The return of David Wallace, who officially asserted himself as the new owner of Dunder-Mifflin -- now free from the Sabre umbrella -- not only put Andy back in the manager's office, but also signaled a return to the earlier days of "The Office." There's no need for big stars to fill those roles because the show is about the everyday and the mundane.
With the core cast signing up for a ninth season, "The Office" seems a lock to be picked up again. So maybe a new season that refocuses on the happenings in the office will bring back that spark that made the show a hit in the first place. Spade was certainly a notable presence on the show, but did he manage to outweird even Steve Carell's Michael Scott?
While Michael infamously kissed Oscar during his tenure, Robert California's farewell kiss on Andy's lips was still a little unusual. As for Nellie, she managed to convince Andy to keep her on in some kind of made-up job, so Catherine Tate may well continue her own brand of crazy into next year, albeit in a diminished capacity.
On the more down-to-earth front, Dwight gave away free family portraits in order to get a DNA sample from Angela's baby, in hopes of proving that it's his. Results, though, will have to wait until next season. Rainn Wilson is looking to develop a spin-off for the character of Dwight. Could Angela and baby follow?

Add to myYahoo!FOX renews Touch, cans Alcatraz and The Finder [Deadline]
- There's nothing too unexpected about this. Touch performs decently and Kiefer Sutherland helps, while the other two were just doing awfully.
FOX orders a bunch of shows [TV Line]
- Noteworthy are the number of comedies. My guess is a 2-hour comedy block on Tuesday, and moving Glee to Thursday.
NBC renews Law & Order: SVU, picks up Chicago Fire and Guys With Kids [TV Line]
- You can't blame NBC for not trying. It's going the hot girls/hot girls route with Chicago Fire and maybe Guys With Kids to pair with Up All Night.
List of 31 rotten parts in pop culture[AV Club]
- This was published a few days ago, but I just read it today. It's a fun list, as all lists are, but I have some quibbles. The biggest problem I have is Buffy the Vampire Slayer's first season. First seasons can be good if the showrunner has a clear idea in his/her mind beforehand, but more often than not, first seasons turn into sketchbooks where writers can work on things before really digging into the meat of the show. I'd agree that the first season is weak, but so are large parts of the sixth and seventh seasons. And even if we were going with the very weak first season criteria set for Buffy, there is one obvious choice that comes to mind, Star Trek: The Next Generation. While first season of Buffy is very watchable--cheesy but definitely watchable, TNG's first season is painful, lacking the intelligence or intensity of later episodes and Buffy's innate humor.
