Review - Warehouse 13 Season 2 Episode 6 Around
the Bend

It's hard not to be disappointed in "Around the Bend," even when the majority of the episode was great. More than halfway through the episode, and all evidence points to a grand conspiracy involving Valda--and possibly someone inside the Warehouse--trying to accrue power by taking artifacts for themselves. Instructed by Mrs. Frederick to keep things hush hush, Pete must go out of his way to deceive his friends and get to the bottom of the conspiracy. This is awesome stuff, especially in the middle of the season.

But wait! It's all a hallucination, the result of a typewriter he touched at the beginning of the episode. There's no conspiracy, no evil Regents, just a crazy Pete. All the built up excitement was for naught. Now I'm not remotely interested. Cut to the end and everything is fine; Pete caused no irreparable damage and Mrs. Frederick knows he wasn't at fault, except that he should keep his hands to himself.

Why couldn't the writers continue in the direction the episode began with and raised the stakes? Once we learned everything was from the artifact, the tension drained out instantly. If the episode is any indication, the writers clearly aren't ambitious enough to push for more.

Score: 8.0/10

'Rescue Me' - 'Forgiven' Recap

'Rescue Me' - 'Forgiven'
(S06E07)
For once, I have absolutely no idea what's coming next on 'Rescue Me,' and I couldn't be happier about it. Pulling back from the Gavin family to face much larger problems, the series was much more enjoyable. As much as Tommy is the central figure of the series, these writers have done far too good a job of fleshing out the secondary and tertiary characters to just leave them hanging out to dry.

As always, the dialogue was sharp and brilliant, both in moments of outright absurdity and moments of true poignancy. Tommy, once again, was put in the awkward position of serving as a figure of wisdom, which is a suit he doesn't wear very well. And Sheila has been relegated to the back burner while Tommy focuses on the relationship he thinks he wants with Janet.

Neil Patrick Harris Gets Belated Emmy Nomination

Neil Patrick Harris can add one more Emmy nomination to his list this year: The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has acknowledged that it neglected to mention Harris in the special-class program category for his hosting gig at the Tonys.

While award show hosts once had their own category (Hugh Jackman, for example, won for his performance as the Tonys host in 2005), the hosts are now wrapped up in a composite award for the show overall. The 63rd Annual Tony Awards' executive producers Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss were listed as contenders when nominations were announced last month, but Harris was left out in the Emmy cold for his role in the show. The Academy amended its previous announcement Tuesday after 'L.A. Times'' awards blog Gold Derby pointed out the oversight.
