Review: The Middle - The Jeans

The Middle: The Jeans
(S01E11)
Oh good lord, the kids and their need to fit in. As a parent to someone who's not a teenager, this show is starting to make me think I might need to sell him off to foreign interests sooner rather than later. Maybe that's because mine already acts more like Brick than I'd care to imagine, and I can only imagine how much of a handful he'll turn out to be.

Mike and Frankie already seem overwhelmed by Axl and Sue. It was a refreshing, if nefarious, change to see Axl dressed, smiling and helpful. But like his parents, I was a little too slow on the draw to see what he was truly up to. As for Sue, well her scenario was far more classic teenager.

Fans mobilize to save Better Off Ted

better off ted
Frankly, I was surprised that ABC gave Better Off Ted a second season at all. Don't get me wrong, I was pleasantly surprised, because I absolutely adore the show, but ABC didn't seem to have much confidence in it, and ratings weren't exactly out of this world. So, as a fan, I guess I should be thankful that I'm still seeing new episodes, but I'm still kind of annoyed that ABC seems to be burying this hilarious show.

Along with Zombie Scrubs, it was basically the only new show on the air over the holidays-- when nobody was home to watch. They're doubling up episodes and seem to be burning them off as quickly as possible. Fans have already seen the writing on the wall, and are beginning to mobilize to save Ted. Between the #saveted hashtag on Twitter, and the new site, SaveBetterOffTed.com, people are letting it be known that they do not want this show to go off the air.

Is Leno a goner Moving to 11:30

A report from TMZ confirmed that Jay Leno is moving back to 11:30 after the Winter Olympics, ending the half-year long experiment by NBC.

NBC gave the following statement:

?Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay?s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.?

I suppose the numbers do back up what they're saying though it's anyone's guess what is the real truth. Jeno's ratings started great but fell under 2.0 within weeks. Currently the ratings are hovering between 1.5 and 1.8 which is bad, but considering the low cost of the show that isn't too bad. Since the ratings dropped below last year's ratings at 10 PM, the local affiliates lost lots of viewers for 11 PM news which made them bad.

Obama Might Bump 'Lost' !

According to Futon Critic, the White House is working out a potential date for President Obama's first State of the Union address and so far it might be February 2...the premiere date for "Lost."

The address is slated to be 2 hours long so it's not just a little bump.  Chances are "Lost" would premiere another day if this happened.

No word yet on when the final decision is to be made but I'll be sure to keep you posted.

Review: Cougar Town - Rhino Skin

Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox in Cougar Town : Rhino Skin(S01E11) I have to open this review by saying I've never been a big fan of Lisa Kudrow's work. Phoebe, for the most part, was my least favorite character on Friends, and Kudrow always struck me as the kind of actor who plays one role really well, then just plays variations on that role for the rest of his or her career. When you like that signature character, you're fine with it. But when you don't, it just becomes grating.

Any role I've seen Kudrow in just reminds me of Phoebe, and the role she played last night, as mean skin doc Amy Evans, just felt like Phoebe when she was in one of her bad moods. So the overhyped Friends-reunion part of the episode didn't do much for me, for a lot of reasons. But the rest of the episode was just more evidence that this is quickly becoming one of the best ensembles on TV.
