This week, actress Linda Purl joins me, Jason Hughes and Kona Gallagher to talk about her guest starring stint as Pam's mom on The Office -- she's on tonight's episode, by the way. She also chats about her long acting career (remember her during the waning days of Happy Days?), her work with the California International Theatre Festival and her current success as a touring lounge singer.
After the interview, which is about 30 minutes, Kona, Jason and and I talk about the following:

I'm all for more Westerns on television. It's a genre that lends itself well to the ongoing storytelling format that a regular TV series allows. So when I saw an article that FX was gearing up Reconstruction, a series set in the post-Civil War era of American history, I was pretty excited.
Creators Joshua Brand and Peter Horton thought it would make a good allegory for today's world, dealing with the economic crisis and even the ongoing war. "How does one heal after (a war)? How do you find your humanity again?" asked Horton. These are things the show hopes to deal with.
It centers around Jason, an East Coaster who comes back from the war changed. He finds refuge in a small town in Missour, where the saga will unfold. All of this was great, until I got to one line in the Reuters story: "Brand, the co-creator of St. Elsewhere, is writing the script for the project, which will include magical elements, with thirtysomething actor-turned-director Horton attached to take the helm." Magical elements? What?! Why?

Add to myYahoo!Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get culture and literature from TV Squad. This is the second post about poetry today. (Tomorrow: e.e. cummings.)
I saw Suzanne Somers on Rachael Ray this morning, and then I go to Best Week Ever and see video of SNL's Kristen Wiig reading excerpts from Somers' book of poetry! Unlike the post link above, these words really are from Somers.

Add to myYahoo! On Tuesday, Mike Bloomberg won reelection as Mayor of New York City. To do so, he had to do an end run around the will of The People - twice they voted for term limits, but Bloomberg, hungry for a third term in power, had the City Council eliminate the law.
After spending over a hundred million dollars of his own money, Bloomberg won by only about 5% over his Democratic rival, by a total of just over 50,000 votes.
So he has his third term, but with no mandate by the people, and I'm sure his rivals and enemies will make sure it's not an easy ride for him.
In the meantime, the televersion of Mayor Mike Bloomberg has made three fictional appearances in Toobworld since he first became "Hizzoner". And that qualifies him for membership in the TV Crossover Hall Of Fame. And since this month is something of a political theme, and since we're inducting "League Of Themselves" members into the Hall during the first week as part of our tenth anniversary celebration, Bloomberg is the inductee into the Hall for the first week of November.
As one angry over Bloomberg's trampling of the people's decision, just don't expect me to welcome him.....

Considering the incredible overnight ratings that Fox got for Game Six of the World Series, you might think I'm crazy to suggest that the network would be rooting for the New York Yankees last night to beat the Philadelphia Phillies, but I have evidence. All through the game, Fox was promoting Fringe and Bones, urging viewers to tune in tomorrow night -- tonight -- for new episodes. Why would the network be sending that message when there was a possibility of a Game Seven?
