Weeds season 2

Season 2 of Showtime's "Weeds" starts back up on August the 14th. The show has done well for the network and will in my opinion continue to bring in the ratings. Its a bad comparison, but the show is like desperate housewives with weed. The show is about a single mother with kids who's husband has died. She does everything she can to make a living which has turned to selling weed. Its an interesting look at the way things can be in the suburban life. If you haven't seen the show go out and buy season 1 now its worth the spare change in your wallet or purse. The show is worth watching and it keeps throwing surprises at you.

UK DVD art

The UK gets DVD's before we do in most cases of our American shows. You can use my search field to see others that I have posted before. I have already posted one for FOX's "Family Guy" that is still not out in the US which is a X-mas DVD. This is their DVD art of season 2 volume 1-5 for Sci-Fi's "Stargate Atlantis". They tend to have volumes of DVD's for seasons of their shows.

Creator of Everwood jumps over to the alphabet
network

Filed under: Drama, Science Fiction, ABC, FOX, Programming, OpEd, Retro Squad

Everwood creator is coming to ABCIt looks like Everwood is really, really, really, really not coming back. You want proof? Well, how about the creator of the series, Greg Berlanti, leaving Warner Brothers TV and relocating to ABC and its sister production company Touchstone TV. Still don't believe me? Gosh, you're stubborn.

Berlanti, the creator of the recently canceled WB drama as well as the critically acclaimed Jack & Bobby (also canceled), has two drama pilots in development for ABC. One of them, a drama entitled Eli Stone, has earned a pilot order from the network. The other untitled drama, about a wealthy family seen through the eyes of their lawyer, has a script order.

According to Zap2it, Eli Stone, will center on a a lawyer (not the same one who represents the wealthy family) who thinks he is becoming a prophet because of visions he is having. Berlanti hopes that the show will discuss the subject of spirituality with a heartfelt sense of humor. The script for the show was written by Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, who worked on Jack & Bobby as well as Law & Order and CSI:Miami.

CBS reporter walks out of the hospital -- UPDATE

kimberly dozierKimberly Dozier left a Maryland hospital this week, two months after nearly getting killed when a car bomb exploded nearby. Two of her colleagues, cameraman Paul Douglas and soundman James Brolan, were killed in the attack. Dozier suffered serious injuries to her head and legs. She was treated in Iraq, then moved to Landstuhl in Germany, Bethesda in Maryland, and finally to Vernon hospital in Maryland. When she left the hospital this week, she thanked the Army's 4th Infantry Division for treating her immediately after the attack and paying tribute to her fallen colleagues.

Amazingly, Dozier plans to return to work as soon as possible. She still has a few more surgeries on her legs.

New science fiction anthology coming to ABC

Filed under: Drama, Science Fiction, ABC, Programming

Anne Heche of Masters of Science FictionABC certainly doesn't seem to be making the same mistakes as it did early this century when it relied on only one show (Who Wants to be a Millionaire) to carry its entire programming schedule. In other words, it's not counting on the successes of Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy to carry the the whole network. So, only does it have a full slate of new series to try out on the public, but it is also experimenting with a few concepts that haven't been seen in awhile.

One of these is a new anthology series named Masters of Science Fiction. Created by IDT Entertainment, the same people who gave us Showtime's Masters of Horror, the six episode series will feature adaptations of stories from acclaimed science fiction writers such as Harlan Ellison, Robert Heinlein and Robert Sheckley. Each episode will be introduced by physicist, author, and recurring actor on The Simpsons Stephen Hawking.

A number of actors from current and new ABC series will be cast in this anthology. This includes Anne Heche from the upcoming series Men in Trees, Terry O'Quinn from Lost, and Desperate Housewives' James Denton. Also appearing will be Sam Waterson (Law & Order), Elisabeth Rohm (Angel), Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings), and Macolm McDowell.

Psych: 9 Lives

Filed under: Comedy, OpEd, USA, Psych

The Cast of Psych(S01E05) Let's not dilly-dally around this week. Let's get to the best scene of the episode. This would be the one where Shawn is "channeling" a recently dead singer/dancer in front of the police chief. Well, to be truthful, he's "channeling" the dead woman via a "psychic connection" with a cat (who was previously owned by another recently dead victim).

Shawn is grooving and gliding along, singing in a husky female voice, trying to prove to the chief of police that four recent suicide victims didn't really kill themselves at all. Rather, they were murdered. It was all very surreal, like a nightmare version of All That Jazz. Bob Fosse would have been proud. It was also very funny, as was the entire episode.

This was purely a Shawn and Gus episode (very little Henry Spencer this week), and it was heavy with investigation and keen observation. Shawn came to the early conclusion that the deaths were not all suicides, but rather the work of a serial killer; despite the fact that the police didn't believe him (are the police THAT stupid? I fear for our lives.). They all seemed to have one thing in common: they all called a free stress hotline prior to their deaths. Shawn and a reluctant Gus (isn't he normally reluctant) hole up in a utility closet near the offices of the hotline to find the killer. Unfortunately, the killer wasn't a member of the office team, but someone not even related to the hotline group.

That was the best part of this week's episode; the mystery of who the killer pretty much remained a mystery until the end of the show. In the last few episodes you could almost pick out the culprit when they were first introduced as some innocuous friend or family member who knew the victim. But, not this time. Frankly, I thought the murderer was the director of the non-for-profit hotline. But, it turned out to be the phone line repairman whose brother was the first, and only real, suicide victim.

The mystery was very well done this week, and featured plenty of "psychic" spells and keen observations from our friend Shawn. He even received a sort-of thanks from Detective Lassister for helping nab the murderer. Gus, on the other hand, was not good this episode. In fact, he was down right annoying at some points. I hope the producers of Psych give Dule Hill's character a bit more to chew on in the next few weeks rather than have him keep saying, 'Shawn, we can't do that.'.

Ready for this week's complaint? I promise it doesn't involve scenery. It's during the scene where Gus and Shawn confront the killer. In rush Detectives Lassister and O'Hara . . . and a pregnant chief of police ready to shoot to kill. Now, if I were a pregnant chief of police (possibly in my next sitcom) I wouldn't be walking into a crime scene where some guy has a gun pointed at me. Not only is that dangerous and stressful for myself, but also extremely perilous for my unborn baby. What happens if the serial killer decided to shoot at the cops and hit me? There go two lives down the drain.

Oh, one more thing before I close out this week's review: more Henry Spencer!
