'Happy Endings': Colin Hanks Isn't As Cool As
Dave Thought

Getting a liquor license turns out to be a great move for Dave on "Happy Endings" (Wed., 9:30 p.m. EST on ABC). Suddenly, he's on the cover of local magazines for cool hangouts in Chicago, and even luring in cool friends like guest star Colin Hanks. As the episode progresses and his success grows -- who knew an outdoor movable speakeasy would be such a hit -- Dave was surprised to see his old friends pulling away from him.

What he didn't realize was that they were doing so because for some reason they were inexplicably all having sex dreams about him, except for Alex. As it turned out, her ridiculous cleanse routine that Penny bailed out on halfway through the episode, was the reason Alex was spared -- though at the same time, she's the only one who actually has slept with him.

What they find out is that it's a secret ingredient in his drinks, later revealed to be turpentine, that's leading to the overly uncomfortable dreams. Except for Penny, who was actually enjoying the romance of her fantasies. At the end of the episode, though, Alex comes off of the cleanse, re-enacts her infamous ribs eating scene and then downs way more of Dave's drink than she should have. Her subsequent sex dream with him turns out to have been no dream at all.

Much like Dave's belief that Colin Hanks was a cooler option as a friend than his original gang. When he felt rejected by them, he drew closer to Colin and his intern. There he found a world of painfully boring stories, an intern with an insatiable desire for cocaine, and himself with an offer to move to Tampa -- apparently this Colin Hanks doesn't have a lot of close friends.

'Modern Family' Dunphy Girls 'Monsterate' On Leap
Day

For the episode airing on Leap Day 2012, "Modern Family" (Wed., 9 p.m. EST on ABC) embraced the holiday in two of their three storylines. The more standard one revealed that Can's birthday falls on February 29, making this his "tenth" birthday. Mitchell spends the entire episode trying to throw him the biggest and best birthday party of all time, completely missing the point that Cam is trying to embrace that this is birthday #10 because he's not ready to face the big 4-0.

Phil's enthusiasm for Leap Day was a more general excitement about the idea of a bonus day to live life to the fullest every four years. So he came up with a great plan to have the whole family learn the trapeze on this day, only to have it derailed when he realized one by one that the ladies of the house had synchronized their cycles.

But rather than face it head on, Phil panicked and decided instead to try and convince them to sit it out and sneak out just him and Luke. But when he fakes Luke feeling under the weather as well, the girls hold him behind as well. So Phil develops an even crazier plan involving fake blood and a faked injury. But when Luke accidentally spills half the bottle over his body, it leads to a full-scale panic in the younger Dunphy girls, while Claire realized that this was Phil's elaborate plan to avoid dealing with them.

Of course, everything worked out in the end, with Cam getting to play like a child and Phil getting to do the trapeze. The third story was a simpler one. Gloria felt an urge to have Jay react protectively and stand up for her, before realizing that she didn't want that at all. That's what kind of man Manny's father is, and that's not the man she needs in her life now. Besides, as she proved with the ship's captain who refused their entire party entrance, she can stand up for herself perfectly well.

TVXOHOF, 03/2012 - DAVY JONES

"Real Life is March."from the movie "Leap Day Willliams"as seen in '30 Rock'
I made a pledge that when a deserving real-worlder died, a member of the League of Themselves with enough televersion credits to their name, they would be inducted immediately into the TV Crossover Hall of Fame.

Sadly that day has come for Davy Jones, formerly a member of the Monkes, aka the Pre-Fab Four, and the greatest rock and roll band to be created for Toobworld.
DAVY JONES, MONKEES HEART-THROB, DIES AT 66 Davy Jones, the singer for the Monkees perhaps best known for his vocals on ?Daydream Believer,? died on Wednesday at his home in Indiantown, Fla. He was 66.

The cause was a heart attack, according to the medical examiner?s officer there and a spokeswoman for the singer.

Mr. Jones, a former jockey and stage actor, was an important member of the first and arguably the best of the pop groups created for television to capitalize on the success of the Beatles. Though they were not taken seriously at first, the Monkees made some exceptionally good pop records, thanks in large part to the songwriting of professional songwriters like Neil Diamond and Tommy Boyce.

As himself, apart from the Monkees, Davy Jones racked up more than enough TV appearance credits to warrant inclusion in the TV Crossover Hall of Fame. I'm just sorry it took his death to prompt me to do so.
Of course, first and foremost, we have to include his signature TV series 'The Monkees' which also pulls in the movie "Head" which served as a spin-off of sorts. (And there's a lateral connection within the series to 'Batman', when another Hall of Famer, the Penguin, attended one of their shows.)
Among his other qualifications:
Sabrina, the Teenage WitchDante's Inferno (1997)
Hilda's punitus spell illness involves several things she says including figures of speech, appearing in physical form. These include Davy Jones of the Monkees when Hilda feels like she has "a monkey on her back".
The Single GuyDavy Jones (1996)
Jonathan hosts a Thanksgiving party with special guest Davy Jones, who's considering Jonathan to co-write his biography.
Herman's HeadThe One Where They Go on the Love Boat (1992)
The office workers go on a trip to the Bahamas - Herman has to deal with Elizabeth, who happens to be on board, while Louise gets to indulge her long-time infatuation for Davy Jones of the Monkees.

Probably the most famous of all his guest appearances:

The Brady Bunch Getting Davy Jones (1971)
Marcia promises the Davy Jones fan-club that she will get the famous star to appear at the prom, but the only problem is that she has no way of contacting him.
This next one is a theoretical appearance but I think it can work.....
Davy Jones appeared in three episodes of 'Z Cars', as three different characters. Two of them have names, but in "On Watch - Newtown", he was identified only as "Boy Footballer."
Why couldn't that boy footballer have been Davy as a young boy?

(The picture here from 'Z Cars' is from another episode, but I'm sure he wasn't too far off the mark as the boy footballer.)
So Toobworld Central is including that episode as a valid contribution.
Z CarsOn Watch - Newtown (1962) ? Boy Footballer (as David Jones)
Both crews are forced to realize the narrow margin between life and death on a busy night in which Barlow and Twentyman miss one crime and catch two criminals.

Davy Jones also appeared in the Tooniverse, but I think it's only the Scooby-Doo movie that counts as being his "tooniversion". (If I remember correctly, his "Davy Jones" in 'Spongebob Squarepants' was an in-joke about the infamous legend from the watery depths.)
SpongeBob SquarePants
? SpongeBob vs. the Big One (2009)

The New Scooby-Doo MoviesThe Haunted Horseman in Hagglethorn Hall (1972)

And so we welcome Davy Jones into the TV Crossover Hall Of Fame, even as we bid him adieu in the real world. But for more on that aspect, I'd like to share the thoughts of his former band-mate, Michael Nesmith....
All the lovely people. Where do they all come from? So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolence and sympathy, I don?t know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all. I share and appreciate your feelings. But let?s not get ahead of ourselves here. While it is jarring, and sometimes seems unjust, or ...strange, this transition we call dying and death is a constant in the mortal experience that we know almost nothing about. I am of the mind that it is a transition and I carry with me a certainty of the continuity of existence. While I don?t exactly know what happens in these times, there is an ongoing sense of life that reaches in my mind out far beyond the near horizons of mortality and into the reaches of infinity. That David has stepped beyond my view causes me the sadness that it does many of you. I will miss him, but I won?t abandon him to mortality. I will think of him as existing within the animating life that insures existence. I will think of him and his family with that gentle regard in spite of all the contrary appearances on the mortal plane. David?s spirit and soul live well in my heart, among all the lovely people, who remember with me the good times, and the healing times, that were created for so many, including us. I have fond memories. I wish him safe travels.- Michael Nesmith
Good night and may God bless......

REID BETWEEN THE LINKS

For those of you who watched the whole episode, you might be surprised that there was no grisly twist, no shock ending, as one might expet from an anthology series that gave us "Lamb To The Slaughter", "Bad Actor", and "Man With A Problem".
This was mostly a character study, almost a two person playlet, set in a world of rural despair and on first glance one might think it didn't have anything of significant value for Toobworld.
But you'd be wrong.
At first, as we met Millie Wright in her isolated cabin, I was tempted to place the locale for the episode in the "Land Of The Giants", like a certain T-Zone episode. (No spoilers on that one - it's just too good!)
But that would be too complicated for the splainin.
This remote, rural farm community is probably set at the turn of the 20th Century - people are still using horse & buggty as the main mode of transportation, but they also have telephone service.
Because of the participation of one particular actress, I'm going to claim that "A Jury Of Her Peers" took place in the outer environs of Chicago around 1905. First off, according to the Encyclopedia of Chicago, 100,000 residences had telephone service in the greater Chicago area by 1905.  (I always say - TV is a teaching tool!)
If it is located in Illinois, but outside Chicago due to its rural setting, I'm going to claim that it's the town of Salem, founded in 1802 - home to the Hortons and the Bradys... as seen in 'Days Of Our Lives'.

Out of all pozz'ble options, I chose Salem because of Mary Peters, the wife of Sheriff Henry Peters. Mrs. and Mrs. Peters arrived in town five years before, according to this episode, and although their own home-life was not central to the story, I'd like to think Henry and Mary had children - or at least a daughter, who would soon be old enough to marry (if she wasn't already.)

That daughter could have married a local lad by the name of Grayson. And while that could lead to theories of relateeveety connecting them to Dick Grayson (of 'Batman') and ultimately to Amanda Grayson (of 'Star Trek'), my concern is more immediate - these Graysons would have a daughter of their own by 1914 - whom they named Alice.
And Alice would be the center of life there in Salem, of all that would occur during the 'Days Of Our Lives' until 2010. (When her death was acknowledged on the soap opera.)

I make this claim of relateeveety based on the resemblance between Mary Peters and Alice Grayson Horton - due to Frances Reid having played both roles.
(This theory of relateeveety post is dedicated to my Auntie Anne, who is a big fan of 'Days Of Our Lives'.  So is her daughter-in-law, Denise, probably even more fanatically so, but blood will out.  Sorry, Denise!)

Crystal Bell: 'Revenge' Recap: Tyler's Killer Is
Revealed

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 1, Episode 16 of ABC's "Revenge," entitled, "Scandal."

"Everyone is looking for a member of the 1 percent to smack down." Truer words have never been spoken when it comes to Daniel Grayson.

Not only does the media wants to see him get locked up for Tyler's murder on the beach, but the judge didn't have any mercy for Daniel either. After a brutal hearing, he's being held without bail in a maximum security prison. Poor Daniel. He's much too pretty for Rikers Island.

However, pretty boy Grayson is not exactly completely innocent. He did shoot Tyler, but he didn't kill him. That, my friends, was done by Takeda, thanks to Emily's carelessness. In an effort to stop Tyler from revealing Emily's secret to Daniel, Takeda knocked Daniel upside the head with a rock -- knocking him out cold -- but not before Daniel wrestled the gun away from his old roommate Tyler and shot him.

Tyler, bleeding in the sand, asks Takeda for help, but instead, he got was two fatal shots to the back. Now Emily's in quite the predicament.

Remember when Emily tried to break up the Grayson family (and almost succeeded)? Well, those days are over. In the aftermath of Tyler's shocking murder on the beach, the Graysons have now banded together to help protect Daniel (and their reputations), just like they stuck together to cover up Conrad's involvement in the plane crash that lead to David Clarke's arrest.

Will history start to repeat itself? Will the Grayson's try to blame Tyler's murder on Amanda Clarke? Of course they are! After all, it's not like Faux-Manda wasn't at the scene, and it looks like the Graysons' lawyer, Mr. Brooks, is going to do everything he can to try an pin this on someone else.

While being questioned by the Graysons' lawyer, Daniel confesses to shooting Tyler once in chest. But, he reveals that Tyler was shot three times -- once in the chest and twice in the back -- which means that Mr. Brooks can argue that there was a third person at the scene, responsible for Tyler's death.

And who does H.B.I.C. Victoria want to take the blame? Amanda Clarke. But there's one problem: Faux-Manda has disappeared, thanks to Takeda. It looks like Amanda witnessed Tyler's murder, so obviously, Takeda "took care of her."

I can only imagine what "took care of her" meant, but sadly, I don't think our curly-haired stripper is dead. Nope, that would be much too easy. At some point in Daniel's trial, she'll have to come back into the picture. In fact, if she does come back to the Hamptons, chances are she might have to take a DNA test, which would ultimately prove that she's not who she says she is.

But Faux-Manda isn't the only one under Takeda's control. Emily's former sensei had his own mole at the Fire & Ice Ball ... Nolan! That's why the two shared a nod by the punch bowl. On Takeda's orders, Nolan cut the security cameras at the ball to the same three-minute loop. Now it's impossible to see who else suspiciously left the party.

It looks like Nolan has also managed to get himself into a tricky situation. No wonder he seemed so against Emily's plan.

Meanwhile, Jack's shocked to discover that it was Tyler's body on the beach and not Daniel's. And even though Nolan does what he can to try and convince Jack to go to Haiti, Jack's on a mission to find out what Amanda was hiding. What else is new?

On the night of the murder, Jack found the wire transfer receipt in Amanda's pocket. Naturally, he's suspicious, especially because it's from the same account that funded the school in Haiti. But this is the least of Jack's worries.

Declan finds his brother's bloody hoodie. Of course Jack didn't wash his blood-stained hoodie. I mean, what idiot would do that? And with Amanda seemingly MIA, Jack is the No. 1 suspect on Mr. Brooks' list.

There's also a hefty reward for anyone who knows more about the murder. You see, the Graysons may not have been able to buy Daniel's way out of jail, but they can certainly buy their way to a false accusation, especially if the right evidence is there.

But will Declan turn in his own brother for $100,000? I can only hope so. It may actually make me start to care about his character.

And let's not forget his troubled girlfriend Charlotte Grayson. She's pretty much like the new Marissa Cooper. It looks like the only way that little Grayson can cope with the realization that David Clarke is her father is by popping pills. Similarly, the only way that Marissa Cooper could deal with her boyfriend Luke cheating on her in Tijuana was by popping pills! Not to mention that they both hated their manipulative mothers.

Let's not forget about Ashley (even though it can be easy to), who tells Mr. Brooks that she thinks Daniel really did kill Tyler. Something tells me that Ashley is a ticking time-bomb ready to go off. Her loyalty to the Graysons will definitely be tested, and who knows them more than their PR guru and resident snoop Ashley? She has more dirt on the Graysons' than Emily, and it's only a matter of time until she uses it to get what she wants.

Personally, I can't wait to see that catfight.

Notable Quotables:

"The guy went all Benihana on my arm and tied me to a chair."
-- Nolan

"You can count on my husband and I to work as a team."
-- Victoria

"As much as we try and escape our past, we seem destined to repeat it. Like it or not, we are in this together."
-- Conrad

"You ever notice that whenever you want her to leave, girlfriend keeps popping up like the homicidal stripper addition of Whac-A-Mole, but whenever you need to find her, she vanishes."
-- Nolan

"It's too late to put that genie back into the Infinity Box."
-- Nolan

"I think Daniel shot Tyler, and I think he's going to get away with it."
-- Ashley

"Revenge" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
