Carol Burnett hates the First Amendment

video details and more

While some of us who remember Carol Burnett as the celebrity who sued the National Enquirer (and won) for reporting that she appeared drunk and rowdy in a Washington D.C., restaurant, a new generation can know the comedienne as the old lady who sued Family Guy for a few seconds' throwaway gag.Watch the clip above and don't blink or you might miss the grounds for the $2 million copyright infringement lawsuit, claiming the Fox show didn't have her permission to use her "Charwoman" character as a porno-shop maid, to use what the lawsuit calls an "altered version" of her theme music, and make a dirty joke out of her signature "ear tug."Hey, we'd like to sue Family Guy for lots of reasons, because it's dirty not funny, its jokes are lamer than Leno's monologues and it sucks, but old Carol apparently forgot one word that was key to her old show on CBS-- the one in which she and Harvey Korman and Tim Conway would always laugh at their own jokes: SATIRE!Before Saturday Night Live, The Carol Burnett Show was a rare network TV series that did topical satire. It was tame, broad, G-rated satire, but we'll go out on a limb and guess that if her suit gets that far, a judge will rule that it's not that far a stretch from her own "As The Stomach Turns" and "Starlet O'Hara" to the Charwoman mopping up peep show booths. And happy birthday, Jerry Lewis! --Tabloid Baby
