This week's episode of Damages featured a first for the serpentine legal thriller: no flash-forwards. Instead, the plot unfolded in a linear fashion and was confined to the present-day, focusing on both the machinations of the Tobin family, Tom confessing to his in-laws about the financial fraud, and the domestic squabbles at the Parsons' home in New Jersey. There were no flashbacks, no six months later flash-forwards, and I missed the nonlinear structure of the series. Yes, the writers tried something different but what works best about Damages is that it is the television narrative equivalent of a Rubik's cube; I love twisting the various elements together, twirling the plot threads, to resemble something complete and whole.Last night's episode ("Flight's at 11:08") therefore placed its emphasis on Patty relentlessly pursuing the Tobin case and engaging in some mindgames with the Tobin family lawyer Leonard Winstone, while Ellen chose her family over the legal adventures promised by Patty Hewes, settling in for an evening of tension, petty feuds, and crystal meth at her parents' house. In other words: the domestic and the professional collided once more as several of the characters were forced to weigh their careers against their personal lives. I don't think anyone was more surprised by what they ended up choosing than Ellen herself. Ellen. Did Ellen make the right choice? She had made a commitment to her family, after all, and Season One was overflowing with...

Add to myYahoo! In Hollywood, sequels are always possible: Not only has Paramount Pictures given Mission Impossible IV the green light, its star Tom Cruise has also been confirmed to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt.
Cruise, along with JJ Abrams, will produce the movie, though Abrams won't be directing, as he did for Mission Impossible III. That job is still open but screenwriters have already been hired and the idea has been pitched by Cruise himself. Over the Summer, Abrams said that he and Cruise had a "really cool idea" for the fourth film.
This should be a blockbuster of epic proportions, since each movie in the Mission Impossible franchise has only gotten bigger and better, and Cruise definitely shines as an action star. Are you pumped for another chapter?

It always amuses me when reality star and pop celebrities write and release books for their fans. They don't really strike me as big readers.
Kate Gosselin, the former star of 'Jon & Kate Plus 8' and tabloid magazines at a grocery store near you, has released her own book titled 'I Just Want You to Know.' Funny, I don't know anyone who wanted to know in the first place.
The book was published by Zondervan, a Christian book publisher, so the book not only features her accounts of what went on behind the scenes, but also things such as prayers taken from her own journal. Prayers, those would have come in handy when her show was on the air.

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, which means we're in the season of candy, flowers, and mushy movies. The star-studded film homage to the holiday got me thinking about other couples I'd like to see in romantic comedies - namely, actors we've never seen paired together or faces that don't usually turn up in the genre. Check out my list and submit your own in my movie lists community group! View Slideshow ?

Add to myYahoo!Remember way back when the Muppets did their version of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and how it set the Internet on fire? Well, their newest attempt couldn't set a pile of gasoline soaked soaks ablaze.
This time, Beaker attempts to "meep" his way through the Kansas ballad, "Dust in the Wind," but the Internet doesn't seem too pleased with it, which is like saying that Toyota made a little bit of a "boo-boo" with the manufacturing of their cars.

This morning, Brad told you about the possibility of Howard Stern eventually replacing Simon Cowell on 'American Idol.' Stern didn't exactly do anything to shoot down those rumors, but producers of 'Idol' are. Richard Rushfield at The Daily Beast says that not only have there been no talks with Stern about replacing Cowell, it has never even been a consideration.
Stern did talk about it a little on his SIRIUS show, but he never said "yes, I'm talking to the producers" or anything like that. He could be just talking about it to get people talking about him.
Howard Stern on 'American Idol?' That would hurt Stern, actually. His diehard fans would expect him to do something outrageous to sabotage the show, and 'Idol' devotees would instantly say "I'm never watching that show again!" Why not have him judge one of the early audition episodes next season? That might be kinda fun.
